KY Jobless Rate Rose In July

Kentucky's unemployment rate jumped to 6.7%  in July, up from 6.3%  in June. The jobless rate in July of 2007 was 5.5%.Spokesperson Kim Saylor Brannock with the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet says the higher rate is not surprising."Mainly it's that the Kentucky economy, like many other states, is grappling with the fallout from the housing crisis, from tighter credit, from skyrocketing food and energy prices,"  she said.Brannock says it's also a reflection of the fact that many young workers, including recent college graduates, are entering the job market. She says state did see July employment increases in the manufacturing, government and hospitality sectors.
