Kynect Prepares for Open Enrollment

Kentuckians enrolling in Kynect, the state's health care exchange, can expect changes in the way they shop for health insurance beginning Nov. 15.Kynect executive director Carrie Banahan said the actual premium price of health insurance this year will be displayed, giving insurance-browsers an accurate figure. Enrollees can also complete a preliminary eligibility determination to see if they qualify for Medicaid or some type of subsidy."Individuals will be able to see what their actual price will be if they file a formal application through Kynect," Banahan said. "With our last open enrollment in 2014 they could browse for plans in their county, but they saw the sticker price that did not include their premium subsidy. We're very excited this year that they'll have their potential subsidy applied to their premium amount."During the state's first open enrollment period, more than 400,000 Kentuckians signed up for Kynect. Banahan said the agency is prepared for the upcoming enrollment period. More than 350 people will be assisting interested people in signing up or renewing their coverage--that's double the amount of assistance for last year's enrollment period."This enrollment period we're going to focus on individuals who are eligible for a premium subsidy but are unaware," Banahan said.People who are already enrolled will be receiving notification in the mail about their coverage options the first week of November, Banahan said.
