Lally, Yarmuth Meet At Louisville Forum Debate

The major party candidates for Kentucky's Third District congressional seat held another debate Wednesday, this one at the monthly Louisville Forum.Democratic incumbent John Yarmuth and Republican challenger Todd Lally fielded questions about the health care overhaul law, the federal budget and other issues. Both were asked about whether they believe climate change is caused by humans.Yarmuth said yes, adding that the now dead cap-and-trade legislation would have been an effective way to deal with the problem."We actually took what is a Republican idea, a free market reponse to pollution, it was used to solve the problem of acid rain some years ago very successfully. it has been demonized and called all sorts of things," he said. Lally says he's not fully convinced that humans have brought about climage change."What i have seen, though, because I have traveled so extensively, is that other countries are not adhering to any pollution controls, and if we're going to compete globally, we have to be able to get some kind of world consensus, otherwise we tie the hands of U.S. companies," he said. Lally and Yarmuth are scheduled to debate again next week before the Downtown Louisville Rotary Club.To hear the entire Louisville Forum debate, click the player below.
