Laura Bush Campaigns In Bullitt County

First Lady Laura Bush visited Kentucky Monday to take part in an election-eve push for GOP candidates.Mrs. Bush spoke at a get-out-the-vote rally in Shepherdsville. "The choices you make tomorrow will affect the course of our nation's history for years to come. Thank you for everything you're doing to support John McCain and Sarah Palin and Brett Guthrie and Kentucky's Republican candidates," Mrs. Bush said during her ten-minute speech.Brett Guthrie is the GOP nominee for the Second District congressional seat left vacant by the retirement of Republican Ron Lewis. Guthrie is locked in a close battle with Democrat David Boswell.Boswell says he respects Mrs. Bush but believes voters are ready for a new direction in the district and across the state.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
