Lawmakers at Odds Over Ending Session Wednesday

The 2011 session of the Kentucky General Assembly could come to an unexpected end today. The House has adjourned until March 21st, to give the governor time to consider vetoes. But Senate Republicans say they will convene the Senate today, which would be the 30th and final day of the session.House leaders cried foul, but Senate Majority Leader Robert Stivers says the House walked out of a special session during the Fletcher administration.“And said unless there was an agreement, they were not coming back to Frankfort. So maybe we want to go back and recall the facts. They have a hard time recalling the facts as they are. Don’t believe me. Don’t believe them. Look at the record," he says.If the session does end today, Governor Beshear will have to balance Medicaid under the current state budget, or call a special session. Two full days of House and Senate negotiations on the Medicaid budget ended in failure Tuesday.
