Lexington Airport Audit To Be Released

The findings of a state audit of Lexington's Bluegrass Airport will be released Wednesday.Kentucky Auditor Crit Luallan launched an investigation following reports in the Lexington Herald-Leader earlier this year that airport director Michael Gobb spent more than $200,000 on travel and other expenses. Also uncovered were thousands of dollars in unauthorized airport credit card charges for items such as electronic equipment, concert tickets and a night at a Texas strip club.Gobb and four airport executives have since resigned.Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry says he would be stunned if the investigation did not lead to criminal charges."When you look at the breadth of things that have been reported in the paper, let alone what may have been determined by the auditors or the airport board as they continue, it's pretty clear that people have converted airport assets to their personal use and you can't have that," Newberry said.Luallan will release her findings Wednesday morning and will later address the Lexington Urban County Council.(Thanks to WUKY, Lexington)
