LG&E's Falcon Chicks Are Growing Up

It's only been a little more than a week since I was down at Mill Creek, watching several fluffy white peregrine falcon chicks being banded. But already, visible on the live webcam, you can see that those fluffy feathers are nearly gone and the chicks are getting ready to learn to fly.The flying won't happen for about ten more days, but if you check out the falcon cam in the interim, you'll likely see the chicks flapping their wings, building up their flight muscles. And for a fascinating (and, I'm not going to lie, terrifying) preview of what it will be like when these chicks are full grown and hunting on their own, watch this video. It's shot by a camera attached to the back of a peregrine falcon as it snatches a duck out of the air. The climactic moment is around 2:45.
