The Library Books Louisvillians Checked Out the Most in 2014

Creative Commons

Every December, we get annual "best of" lists that try to make sense of what happened over the past year.

Here's another one: The Louisville Free Public Library's most checked-out books and publications in 2014.

Adult Books

Taking first place with 940 check outs is "Top Secret Twenty-One: A Stephanie Plum Novel" by Janet Evanovich.

"I think tons of people really enjoy the, sort of, comedic detective book, and it just flies off our shelves whenever a new edition comes out in that series," said Lisa Sizemore, interim library director.

Topping the list are pop-fiction authors, which normally draw the most attention, she said.

  2. "Invisible" by James Patterson
  3. "The Target" by David Balducci

eBooks

Two of the top three most downloaded ebooks were made into movies. "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn had the most downloads with 774. Sizemore said the numbers differ from physical books because the process for checking ebooks out is different.

Also, LFPL does not offer all of its physical books in ebook form.

  1. "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn
  2. "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green
  3. "The Next Always: Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy, Book 1" by Nora Roberts

"'Gone Girl' and 'Fault in Our Stars,' I think, are definitely driven by the movies coming out," Sizemore said.

She said she was impressed that the second-highest circulated ebook appealed most to young readers.

Children's Books

  1. "The Feelings Book" by Todd Parr
  2. "Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes" by Eric Litwin
  3. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" by J.K. Rowling
