Lincoln Birthplace Building To Close For Renovation

The Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Parkin Larue County will close one of its buildings for renovations later this month. The Memorial Building, which houses a traditional Kentucky frontier cabin, will be closed to the public from September 28 until February of 2010.The renovations will include the replacement of the roof and windows, as well as the restoration of the original bronze doors and skylight.

Spokesperson Doug Richardson says the 1.6 million dollar renovation is the first major work on the building since it was completed in 1911.“Our goal is to have it as much as possible look the way that it did almost a hundred years ago when it was finished,” he said.Abraham Lincoln was born near Hodgenville in 1809. His family moved to Indiana when he was seven.
