LISTEN: WFPL News Special With Drew Curtis, Independent Candidate For Kentucky Governor

Tech entrepreneur Drew Curtis discussed charter schools, climate change and Kentucky's pension crisis Thursday during the second WFPL News Special with the candidates for Kentucky governor.

Curtis qualified this summer for the November ballot by collecting more than 5,000 signatures. He's running as an independent candidate.

Curtis spent a good portion of the live hour-long interview discussing his plan for addressing Kentucky's underfunded pension system, a situation he called "dire."

For the Kentucky Retirement Systems, Curtis said he wants the state to establish a line of credit that could be drawn from as needed. He said that would reduce interest expenses while guaranteeing payouts.

"We have a bad year, take a little out. We have a good year, put a little back in and pay it off," Curtis said.

He also said he supports restoring voting rights to felons, and would consider supporting charter schools if a plan could be drawn up that didn't funnel funding away from traditional public schools.
