Local Group To Mark Gandhi Anniversary

Friday marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of Mohandas "Mahatma" Gandhi, the leader of India's independence movement and advocate of non-violence.

Louisville's Interfaith Paths to Peace organization will hold a midday vigil downtown in remembrance of Gandhi.Executive Director Terry Taylor says his group is concerned about the pervasiveness of violent language in public discourse."On all sides, I think we need to reflect on the way we use language, and not just in the public arena, but sadly i think many of us use with our colleages, our friends and even our loved ones, language and raised voices that give us pause to think about how our words can hurt each other," Taylor said. The vigil will be held from 12:10 to 1:00pm Friday at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Louisville.(Photo from www.wikipedia.org)

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
