Lois Lane YA Novel Coming Next Year from Lexington Author Gwenda Bond

Unboundauthor Gwenda Bond has been tapped to write a novel about Superman love interest Lois Lane's teen years. "Lois Lane: Fallout," which will be published next year by Switch Press in association with DC Entertainment, imagines Lois Lane's teen years as the new girl in her Metropolis high school, which has a bit of a supervillain mean-girl problem. Here's what Switch Press says about the book:  An Army brat, Lois has lived all over—and seen all kinds of things. (Some of them defy explanation, like the near-disaster she witnessed in Kansas in the middle of one night.) But now her family is putting down roots in the big city, and Lois is determined to fit in. Stay quiet. Fly straight. As soon as she steps into her new high school, though, she can see it won’t be that easy. A group known as the Warheads is making life miserable for another girl at school. They’re messing with her mind, somehow, via the high-tech immersive videogame they all play. Not cool. Armed with her wit and her new snazzy job as a reporter, Lois has her sights set on solving this mystery. But sometimes it’s all a bit much. Thank goodness for her maybe-more-than-a friend, a guy she knows only by his screenname, SmallvilleGuy …With Bond's track record of creating smart, fearless teen girl protagonists who aren't afraid to go toe-to-toe with malevolent magic and forces seemingly beyond their control, she's a smart pick to re-imagine Lois Lane as a young investigator tackling the mysteries around her that adults can't—or  won't—face themselves. And her continued interest in the power of family legacies lends her insight to Superman's own emotional baggage that can only deepen Lois' relationship with that mysterious online friend.Bond is the author of two YA books starring clever, smart and fearless female protagonists, with a third on the way in October. In her 2012 debut (which she previews for Unbound here) "Blackwood," Miranda is a 17-year-old living on contemporary Roanoke Island. The bearer of a generations-old curse, Miranda has to solve the mystery of the original Lost Colonists when 114 of her neighbors disappear one summer night. In her novel "The Woken Gods," which was published last year, the daughter of a researcher and an oracle grapples with her family's legacy of power and abuse in a dystopian Washington, D.C. over-run with ancient gods hailing from an international variety of pantheons. And in the forthcoming "Girl on Wire," bad-luck magic threatens a daredevil young circus performer's future under the big top. A Kentucky native, Bond lives in Lexington with her husband, author Christopher Rowe.
