Lookin' At Lucky Wins Preakness

Lookin' At Lucky, the 2-1 co-favorite, has won the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore.First Dude was the second place finisher; Jackson Bend came in third.Lookin' at Lucky, trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Martin Garcia, was the early favorite in the Kentucky Derby, but was hampered by a rough start on the rail at Churchill Downs.Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, the other Preakness co-favorite,  faded after a strong start at Pimlico Race Course and finished eighth.The win means there will be no Triple Crown champion for the 32nd straight year.   The last Triple Crown winner was Affirmed in 1978.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
