The Kentucky Lottery Corporation has surpassed the $1 billion mark in scholarships and grants awarded to Kentucky college and university students.The General Assembly ordered in 1999 that lottery proceeds be used for postsecondary education. Prior to that, the money was sent to the state's General Fund.University of Louisville President James Ramsey says the legislation has boosted college enrollment and kept many top-tier students in the Commonwealth."If the very best students in Kentucky feel that they have to leave Kentucky to get a quality education, they’re never coming back to be part of our communities and our workforce,” Ramsey said.U of L's share of the scholarship funds has exceeded $87 million over the past decade.
