Louisville Arts Picks: Oscars, 'Orlando' And David Cross

Submitted

It's Oscar weekend, and that means curling up in front of the TV in your jammies and watching all the beautiful people.

Or maybe it means putting on a glam gown and going out in public.

The Louisville Film Society is throwing an Oscar Watch Party at Copper & Kings Distillery that sounds like a swell affair: hors d'oeuvres and desserts, cocktails, silent auction and door prizes. They're promising a red carpet, too. It's a benefit for LFS, and each $100 ticket includes a year-long membership.

Looking for Lilith Theatre Company always brings thought-provoking work that tackles gender issues in some way, and their current production is no exception. Pulitzer-nominated playwright Sarah Ruhl adapted the Virginia Woolf novel "Orlando" for the stage in 2010, and LFL brings it to the Black Box Theatre at Bellarmine's Wyatt Center for the Arts. It's time-traveling, it's gender-bending -- you might even call it early science fiction. Even if you've seen the gorgeous 1992 film with Tilda Swinton, it'll be worth checking out in person. And maybe you just want to laugh? Nothing wrong with that. Comedian and actor David Cross will be appearing at the Brown Theatre on Saturday at 8 p.m., in a show called "Making America Great Again!" (Where have I heard that before?)
