Louisville Family Donates $3 Million To Norton Foundation

Louisville's Norton Healthcare Foundation has received a $3 million dollar gift for the new Norton Neuroscience Institute.The money comes from Ray and Mary Hass of Louisville, and will be used in part to endow a research chair for Parkinson's disease, and a research chair for epilepsy.Mary Hass says several family members have suffered from neurological disorders and brain injury, and she's a former president and current legislative director of the Brain Injury Association of Kentucky."It really is my life's work and I really will be actively involved ...I''m not saying i'll be so much with the chairs, but with the public policy and the advocacy part,  I really would like to continue in that work an my work with the NortonFoundation,"  Mary Hass said Thursday.The Hass family has operated an electronics business and a commercial real estate firm.Norton recently announced the creation of its neuroscience institute, which will be developed over the next ten years.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
