Louisville Hunger Walk Set For September

By Andy FreudenburgMany of Louisville’s religious leaders gathered Wednesday to announce their support for 32nd Annual Hunger Walk planned for September.The event, organized by Dare to Care and will consist of a 5k walk or run. Proceeds will go to Dare to Care and The World Food Programme.Louisville Catholic Archbishop Joseph Kurtz (in top photo) was among the clergy who spoke during the press conference at a west Louisville site where a nine year old boy died of malnutrition in 1969. “I am so very honored to be a part with so many leaders in the religious and civic community to work together for the elimination of poverty and hunger within our community. You know not only I am happy to be here but I'll be happy to walk and maybe run in the race.”Last year’s event raised more than $100,000

.  This year’s Hunger Walk will be held September 19th, starting at Waterfront Park’s Festival Plaza.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
