Louisville Officials Look To Meet New EPA Standards

Officials with the Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District they will work to meet tougher ozone standards announced Wednesday by the Environmental Protection Agency.Louisville is already out of compliance with current standards, and district spokesperson Matt Stull says that means stricter enforcement of regulations, which can hurt community improvement efforts.“Outside of the regulatory issue is the stigma that’s attached to communities that in non-attainment," says Stull. "It makes it more difficult for economic development and certainly from a health perspective we don’t want people thinking this is not a healthy place to live.”Stull says the district is considering imposing regulations on how long automobiles can be left idling. He says he hopes that, combined with efforts from the industrial sector, will put Louisville in compliance with EPA standards.
