Louisville Metro Government is again offering a free Christmas tree recycling program. From the mayor's office:Individuals can take their tree to a Louisville Tree-Cycling center on January 3, 4, 5 and 6 to one of three government sites listed below. All locations listed below are open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.· Recycling Center - 595 Hubbards Lane· Public Works Yard - 617 Outer Loop· Waste Reduction Center - 636 Meriwether AvenuePersons taking trees to the Tree-Cycling sites listed are encouraged to bring containers and take home the fresh evergreen mulch.Starting Monday, Dec. 27, residents in the Urban Services District may deposit their trees and greenery curbside. Residents living outside the Urban Service District should check with their private waste haulers to see if tree pickup service is available and when it will begin. For every five trees recycled, approximately 35 pounds of mulch can be created and used to help new plant and tree growth. This mulch performs particularly well for acid-loving plants such as azaleas and rhododendrons. The Christmas tree recycling program is a partnership between Brightside and Louisville Metro Solid Waste Management and Public Works. For more information, contact Metro Call at 311 or 502-574-5000.
