Louisvillians Honor Sexual Assault Victims with Denim

It’s an awareness campaign to show support for victims of sexual assault.Louisville Metro Police Lt. Col. Vince Robison says the department is participating.“We very seldom allow officers to differ from their everyday uniform," says Robison. "It’s important enough to us to allow officers to wear the ribbon to show the respect that we have for the people we run into on a daily basis who have been traumatized.”The movement started in 1999, when an Italian court overturned a rape conviction, saying the victim’s jeans were too tight to be removed by another person. Female lawmakers in Italy protested by wearing jeans to work.
