Lovely Maria took charge in the stretch to pass Angela Renee and went on to win the 141st Kentucky Oaks on Friday at Churchill Downs.
Following up last month's Grade 1 Ashland victory at Keeneland, Lovely Maria broke from the No. 7 post position and was in the hunt throughout the $1 million showcase for 3-year-old fillies. She was even with Angela Renee in the stretch before making a last kick for her third victory in four starts, giving trainer Larry Jones and owner Brereton Jones their third Oaks victories.
Ridden by 56-year-old veteran Kerwin Clark, Lovely Maria ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.45 and paid $14.60, $7.80 and $5.40.
Shook Up returned $20.20 and $11.40. I'm a Chatterbox paid $5 to show.
