Lugar Spelling Error Underscores Campaign Troubles

The re-election campaign for U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar, R-In., has once again stumbled after a typo was spotted in a new attack ad against state Treasurer Richard Mourdock.Lugar is a six-term lawmaker who faces a tough Tea Party challenger in the Republican primary and is poised to lose his seat. The 30-second spot attacks Mourdock for taking an improper second homestead tax deduction and argues voters can't trust him, but much of the ad is being lost amid the misspelling of the word candidate."Then once a candiate for U.S. Senate Mourdock conveniently decided to pay his taxes," text in the ad reads.Earlier this week, The National Review endorsed Mourdock over Lugar, who has also been dogged by residency issues throughout the campaign. Other conservative groups such as the National Rifle Association, Club for Growth and Indiana Right to Life have also backed Mourdock over the longtime incumbent.
