Man vs. Monster: "Michael Von Siebenburg Melts Through the Floorboards" Playwright Talks Cost of Living for the Undead

Baron Von Siebenburg is a man out of time.Immortality isn’t what it used to be for the 500-year-old vampire anti-hero of “Michael Von Siebenburg Melts Through the Floorboards,” playwright Greg Kotis’s dark comedy premiering Saturday in the Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville.“It’s a play about a man who’s falling apart, and a man who has a brutal past and a brutal present, and they start to close in on him,” says Kotis. “The gravity of the life that he’s lived for the past 500 years crushes onto him and he struggles with that.”Kotis, winner of two Tony Awards for the hit musical “Urinetown,” talks with WFPL’s Erin Keane about his preoccupation with consumption, the history of the Balkan States and the existential burdens of the undead.
