Marathon Issues Gasoline Advisory Affecting Small Engines

Marathon Petroleum say gasoline sold in more than 40 counties in Kentucky and southern Indiana could potentially cause problems in motorcycles, mowers, chain saws and other devices with small engines because it may contain more than ten percent ethanol. The company says the gasoline may cause the engines to run faster and hotter than normal. The blending problem originated at one of the company’s Louisville terminals but the advisory does not include Jefferson County.Marathon is advising customers who bought the gas in the advisory counties not to operate their engines until confirming that the fuel they’re using was not impacted. The gasoline was sold since March 3 by Marathon, Speedway and other retailers supplied by the company.A list of the advisory counties and more information is here.
