Mayor Announces New Green Initiative for City

Louisville’s Mayor Jerry Abramson announced the city’s latest efforts to reduce its impacts on the environment. It’s an initiative called “Go Green Louisville.” And Abramson said its goals include reducing energy use in government buildings by 10 percent by the year 2010, as well as bumping up recycling rates citywide by 10 percent. Abramson also announced the city has been chosen as one of only five nationwide to receive assistance from the federal government’s Energy Star program.“As part of that effort, right now we’re evaluating all of metro government buildings to see just how much energy they’re using, and how much energy we’re losing. And then we’ll begin to take the appropriate action to become more efficient.”Go Green Louisville also tackles city government fuel usage and increasing green space.
