McConnell Chao Archives Open At U of L

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and his wife, former U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, have formally dedicated an archive at the University of Louisville that houses their collected papers and personal memorabilia. The 7,000 square foot facility is located in U of L's Ekstrom Library.

McConnell, a U of L graduate, is Kentucky's longest serving U.S. Senator and the chamber's minority leader. Chao, a native of Taiwan, was Labor Secretary for all eight years of the George W. Bush administration, and previously headed the United Way of America and the Peace Corps."Nowhere else is there a country where there is greater tolerance, freedom and opportunities, even today, especially today. I am a adopted daughter of Kentucky and I am proud to be a Kentuckian," Chao said.McConnell says he hopes that his part of the center will help educate people about the purpose of Congress.
