Metro Council Holds Public Budget Forum

The Louisville Metro Council heard some community reaction to the proposed city budget Wednesday. The council held a two hour public hearing. About ten speakers addressed the council’s budget committee, most of them representing external agencies whose funding is reduced in the new budget.Committee Vice-chair Kelly Downard says their concerns are being heard.“The priorities of external agencies this year have been kind of dumped," he said. "Maybe that’s the right thing and maybe it’s the wrong but we’re going to have to sit and look at that pretty hard because, I suspect looking at the crowd, we’re going to hear a lot more of the same thing. It’s something we have responded to somewhat in the past. Maybe we have to do it more thoughtfully this year and see if there is a priority we can switch around.”A second and final public hearing on the budget will be held June 18th.
