Metro Council Now Streaming Meetings

Anyone with an internet connection can now watch Louisville Metro Council meetings live.In 2006, the council switched to a new data management system. The system lets the council post agendas and other documents online for public viewing. The same contract allows the council to stream and archive video of meetings to their website, but officials didn’t take advantage of that option until recently.Majority caucus spokesperson Tony Hyatt says the council’s site gets several thousand visitors each month, but he’s not expecting the streams to be popular until next year.“We’re coming in at a time when the holidays are coming up, so we’re going to have slow meetings next week," he says. "So it may not be until December before people really get used to the whole process."The council currently broadcasts its meetings live on Metro TV. Hyatt says the streaming does not cost the council any additional money.
