Metro United Way Distributes 2008 Funds

Metro United Way’s Board of Directors has authorized the distribution of the millions of dollars the organization raised in 2008.Fundraising dipped to $28.5-million dollars in 2008 from its previous year total of $29.2-million. Spokesperson Mark Zanni says the economy is to blame for the decline, but also the reason why funding of critical projects is so important.“We have to respond to that," says Zanni, "even though we, as an organization, address systemic issues, we can’t put a blind eye to the basic needs that are happening.”Metro United Way funds programs such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Home of the Innocents, the Salvation Army and the YMCA.
