Metro United Way To Distribute More Than $21 Million

Metro United Way has released a list of agencies that will receive funding from its 2009 campaign. The group will distribute more than $21 million to some 90 recipients, including the American Red Cross, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and the Boy Scouts of America. United Way Vice-President Mary Kate Poling said during a ceremony at the Presbyterian Community Center in Smoketown today that the funding is spread across seven counties in Indiana and Kentucky. She says donors have responded well to the needs of the area despite the soft economy.“We want to show what the donors dollars have done, how we have invested in our community, but how we have also been able to as a team and as a community raise the bar on quality and so we have to work together,” she said. The disbursements range from $4,000 to $2 million.A list of the recipients is here.(Story and photo by Andy Freudenburg)
