Update With Audio: Moffett Says Abortion is Murder

Losing a key pro-life endorsement to state Senate President David Williams, Republican gubernatorial candidate Phil Moffett flexed his socially conservative views in a recent questionnaire sent out by the Associated Press. The Louisville businessman, who is backed by the Tea Party, didn't pull any punches on the issues and equated abortion with murder. From the Daily Journal:Moffett, better known for his fiscal conservatism, shows the colors of a social conservative on the abortion issue.

"Human life begins at conception and a fetus is as human as a toddler," Moffett said, responding to the AP questionnaire. "No one would seek a special exemption to murder a toddler, so there should be no special exemptions for murdering a human fetus."

We've asked the Moffett campaign for further comment.UPDATE with audio:In a telephone interview, Moffett told WFPL News that he’s disappointed he didn't receive the nod from Kentucky Right for Life, but that he’s 100 percent pro-life.“I believe life begins at conception so if you kill a child through the act of abortion then I do believe that’s the willful end of somebody’s life. And in Kentucky law that’s considered murder,” he says.During the course of the interview, Moffett said a fetus is as human as a toddler, but when asked who should be prosecuted if abortion is indeed a homicide the Louisville businessman dodged the question.“It’s legal so no one can be prosecuted for it," he says. "Because the law says they can’t and that’s just the way it is. But I still considered it when an expectant mother willfully has an abortion they are ending an innocent life."Pressed further on the matter of who should be penalized, Moffett repeated that abortion is currently legal, but later said if it were illegal he would support doctors and women being "held accountable".Listen to an excerpt of the interview below.
