'National Night Out' Set For Tuesday

The Louisville Metro Police Department will once again participate in the annual "National Night Out" Tuesday evening."National Night Out" was created 25 years ago to allow citizens to get better acquainted with the officers who patrol their neighborhoods and talk about ways to make them safer. It has grown to include more than 10,000 communities in all 50 states and parts of Canada.Local organizer Renee Stigall says " our goal is to let our citizens see that we're concerned about crime in their neighborhoods and that we want to diminish crime."Each of Louisville's eight Metro Police divisions will have an open house of sorts as part of the program, some on-site, others at nearby locations such as shopping centers. They'll include information on starting a neighborhood watch,  along with internet safety tips and a child identification booth. Most of the events begin at 6:00pm.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
