National Safe Place Celebrates 25 Years

National Safe Place holds its annual conference in Louisville later this week. The Louisville-based organization now in its 25th year of operation. It was created to provide refuge to youngsters who are in crisis at home, or have been kicked out of their homes.Executive Director Sandy Bowen says the program has been adopted by many communities since it began here in Louisville."We launched the program throughout the southeastern portion of the country in the first couple of years, and now Safe Place is available in 900 communities and 40 states across the country," says Bowen.This week’s conference will bring together those who are already running a program in their communities with those who want to bring Safe Place to theirs. It starts Thursday at the Brown Hotel.
