New Kennedy Bridge Ramp Is Now Open

Ohio River Bridges Project

Update 10:41 a.m.: The new Kennedy Bridge ramp connecting southbound Interstate-65 and I-64 west is now open.

Previous story:

Nearly a year after it was shut down to allow for the renovation of the John F. Kennedy Bridge, the ramp connecting southbound Interstate-65 and I-64 west is expected to open later today.

The ramp carried about 5,000 vehicles per day before it was closed.

The Kennedy will also be open to six lanes of southbound traffic.

Ohio River Bridges Project spokeswoman Mindy Peterson says more lane restrictions on the Kennedy and the new Abraham Lincoln Bridge will be lifted soon.

“In the coming days, bottom line, drivers will be noticing a much safer, must faster commute.”

Peterson says tolling on the Kennedy and Lincoln bridges will begin sometime in December, after the Riverlink electronic tolling system is installed and tested. The system will also be installed on the new East End bridge.
