New Law Allows Some Sex Offenders Onto School Campuses

A new law that goes into effect later this week will allow convicted sex offenders onto school property with written permission from the school’s principal.Education Department spokesperson Lisa Gross the previous law simply prevented sex offenders from being anywhere near a school, with no exceptions.The new law provides a few exceptions.“If a person who was listed on the sex offender registry had children enrolled in the school, that would be one example, so they could come to the school and pick the child up at the end of the day," says Gross. "Also, many schools in Kentucky are voting places.”Gross says the new law will also apply to certified day-care centers.It goes into effect Wednesday.
