New Manager in Place at Park DuValle

A new management company is in place at the troubled Park DuValle housing development. The Lexington company Winterwood Inc. will take over for Boston-based company The Community Builders, which had been criticized for hiring felons to manage some housing units and for not responding to residents' complaints about poor and unsafe facilities."Obviously TCB made some mistakes, but they were good enough to move forward with bringing in somebody else and we appreciate that,' says Louisville Metro Housing Authority executive director Tim Barry.Barry adds that the new managers can learn from—and improve upon—TCB's actions."Well I think some of those lessons are obvious," he says. "But they come into it with a good reputation and I don't want to relive the past. We've got it behind us."Park DuValle replaced the Cotter-Lang public housing complex, which was the first such complex demolished using federal Hope VI grant funds. It contains several low-income housing units as well as market-priced housing. The contract to manage Park DuValle is worth about $276,000.
