New UK President Talks Affordablity, Trustees Raise Tuition

by Alan Lytle, Kentucky Public RadioIt’s official. University of Alabama at Birmingham provost Eli Capilouto has been elected the University of Kentucky’s 12th president. Today the board of trustees unanimously voted to offer the preferred candidate a contract. Capilouto says he has this message for current and potential UK students.“We are going to do everything in our power to make sure that you get a quality education. We will also try to do it in a way that makes this key to your future, one that is affordable," he says.At the same meeting, the board voted 13 to 6 to raise undergraduate tuition an additional six percent. Several members voiced concern that annual tuition hikes have already put the dream of a college education out of reach for an increasing number of students.
