Northern Kentucky Hosts Pathological Gambling Convention

Experts and clinicians in the field of compulsive gambling will gather in northern Kentucky later this week for the Mid Central Alliance on Problem Gambling Conference. It’s hosted by the Kentucky Council on Problem Gambling.Executive Director Mike Stone says the conference is important to the field because it’s only been recently that pathological gambling has been treated as anything other than a moral or ethical problem."We are recognizing that there is more than just a personal being corrupted that is going on," says Stone. "There are body chemistries, there are learned behaviors, there are psychological and sociological aspects that can lead to individuals becoming pathological gamblers."About one-hundred people from ten states are expected to attend the conference, which starts Thursday.Stone’s organization estimates 25-thousand people in Kentucky are compulsive gamblers.
