Norton to Add to its Cancer Institute

Norton Healthcare is adding to its facilities. Groundbreaking is set for later this week on a $27.7-million building for its Norton Cancer Institute.System Vice-President Tammy McClanahan says the new building will house cutting-edge radiation therapy technology.“With the new center downtown, it offers up another location for patients to receive radiation therapy," says McClanahan, "and we’re also going to add new technology to the downtown radiation center, that will offer some additional radiation therapy capabilities and will also offer radiation therapy to both adult and pediatric patients.”The just over one acre building site is at the corner of Broadway and Floyd streets. McClanahan says the first floor will be used for radiation treatment, the second floor for multi-disciplinary therapy, and the third floor’s use hasn’t been designated. They hope to have it open by July of 2011.
