Officials Looking To Fill Medicaid Funding Gap

By Stu Johnson, Kentucky Public RadioKentucky Governor Steve Beshear says he's worried about filling a funding gap for the state's Medicaid program. Governor Steve Beshear says the 2010 General Assembly assumed the state would receive $238 million in federal funds for Medicaid. Instead, the figure approved by Congress was about $137 million. Beshear says his staff has begun a search for the $100 million needed to shore up the program, but a tax increase is not a viable option."I think every other option is on the table. We will have to look at any number of ways of making up a $100 million, whether that be in Medicaid or some other parts of the state budget.Beshear says Kentucky's Medicaid rolls have increased over the last two years by about three thousand people per month.
