Officials Preparing Flood Assessment

Louisville Metro Officials are unsure whether federal assistance will be available or necessary to cover the costs of Tuesday's flood. While damage to government buildings will likely total in the tens of millions of dollars, the city is insured for 100 million dollars. But mayor's spokesperson Kerri Richardson says there are some expenses that insurance doesn't cover."For example, the reason we were able to get there for the ice storm was we had an enormous amount of labor costs associated with that cleanup," she says. "That's not really something that you can insure against, so those were considered losses that could be reimbursed."Federal assistance could be available if the city racks up more than 5.2 million dollars in uninsured expenses.Officials began the application process for federal aid last week, but Richardson says it could take weeks for an official damage estimate to be completed.
