Ohio River Will Crest Above Flood Stage

This week’s storms have dropped nearly seven inches of rain on the Louisville area, which caused the Ohio River to rise. When the river crests on Friday, it will be at 25 feet, two feet above flood stage. In response, the city of Louisville has put in road closures at 10th and 27th streets and activated half of the city’s 16 pumping stations. As the storm moves out of the area, it will continue to rain further east and north of Louisville. That water will flow into the Ohio River and make its way back to Louisville.“We’re going to see the aftermath of this storm system come back to us from as far away as Buffalo, New York,” says Bud Schardein, the executive director of the Metro Sewer District.Because of that and previously wet conditions, Schardein expects the river to remain high for at least several more days.
