Louisville Metro Government has named the second neighborhood that will undergo property renovations aimed at improving home values and preventing them from being abandoned.Officials say 114 homes in the Shawnee neighborhood will receive repairs over the next five years that include exterior improvements and bringing the properties up to code.

The project is largely funded through a $2 million federal grant and will be led by the city’s Department of Community Services and Revitalization.Officials say they’ll focus on clusters of homes in major corridors like Southwestern Parkway and along Broadway. The city is also investing $100,000 toward economic development that will be used to assist new or expanding businesses in the area.Portland was the first neighborhood to receive improvements under the program. More than 40 homes have undergone renovations since the project began there. From Metro Government: Shawnee residents can learn more about the Shine on Shawnee project and submit an application at a “Home Repair Showcase” offered on three dates at Northwest Neighborhood Place (at Shawnee High School), 4018 W.
