Owensboro Hotel To Be Imploded

Thanks to Lisa Autry, Kentucky Public Radio, WKYU, Bowling GreenOwensboro city officials say they're expecting about seven thousand people to turn out for Sunday morning's implosion of the old Executive Inn Rivermont Hotel. The 32 year old, 660 room hotel closed in June of 2008 and the property was purchased by the city. It will be brought down at 10:00am (Eastern time). The implosion is a somber occasion for former hotel employee Jan Kinsey, who worked in the complex for 25 years."My fondest memories are the employees, being there for them and being the mom, if you will, of the hotel, and watching their families grow, watching their children graduate from college, get married, have children. We were family there and we spent a lot of time together," Kinsey said. The hotel along the Ohio River also housed a nightclub that hosted entertainers such as Red Skelton, B.B. King and Loretta Lynn.City officials are taking suggestions from the public about the future of the hotel property.Kentucky Public Radio's Lisa Autry takes a look back at the hotel's history in this report.
