Parks Project Gets $10 Million Commitment

The Parklands of Floyds Fork project is getting a major financial boost.        The planned 4,000 acre park system along Floyds Fork Creek in southeastern Jefferson County will receive $10 million over the next five years from state government. The money was allocated to the state through the federal Transportation Enhancement program.Humana founder David Jones, treasurer of 21st Century Parks, the non-profit overseeing the project, says government and private donations now total more than $100 million, and the public phase of its fundraising campaign is still ahead."When we do go public with this, we're going to build a nice base not only for finishing out the capital side of it, but raising money for an endowment," he said.Major construction of the new park system is expected to begin next year, with the entire project scheduled for completion in five years.(Park illustration courtesy of 21st Century Parks)
