Passport Rules to Change June 1

U.S. rules regarding the need for passports in certain situations will change in less than three months.  The new rule requires people coming into the U.S. from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean to present a passport book or card.  The previous rule required only a driver’s license or birth certificate. The Kentucky Department of Homeland Security says if you’ll need a new or updated passport book or card, now is the time to apply.  Spokesperson Michael Embry says the upcoming rule change could increase the number of people seeking passports.“They don’t want to have a logjam come June first," says Embry.  "I’m sure there will be people who will put things off.  But if they start taking action now, there shouldn’t be any problem by June first.”Embry says under normal circumstances it takes about two weeks to get a passport.
