Portion Of Wolf Creek Dam Repairs Suspended

By Dan Modlin, Kentucky Public RadioPart of the Wolf Creek Dam safety project in southern Kentucky remains on hold after monitoring equipment detected movement and increased hydrostatic pressure this week.Project Manager David Hendrix of the Army Corps of Engineers says the monitoring equipment is doing its job."The instrumentation is doing exactly what it's designed for. It's telling us that the dam is reacting to either something that we're doing or something that's going on in the foundation. We're going to make that assessment before we continue," he said.Hendrix says the suspension of weork is a precautionary move, and people living in the area should not be alarmed. The temporary suspension only involves 600 feet of the 44-hundred foot concrete barrier wall. That wall is a key part of the $584 million rehabilitation project at Wolf Creek Dam.
