UPDATE: P’Pool Flexes Fundraising Output, Conway Camp Responds

Running unopposed in the primary election, Republican candidate for attorney general and Hopkins County Attorney Todd P’Pool raised an impressive $114,335, according to the latest campaign finance reports. The 15-day reporting period is the last filing before the May 17 primary and stretches from April 15 through May 1. Records show during that time P'Pool raised the second highest amount among any candidate seeking statewide office, behind only Governor Steve Beshear, who raised $200,627 since the last filing. In a news release, the P’Pool campaign bragged about outpacing Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway, who raised only $35,530 during that period."This has been a bad week for Jack Conway,” P'Pool campain spokesman David Ray said in a news release. “First, his horse loses at the Woodford Reserve and now he gets out raised by a 3-to-1 margin. Kentuckians would be smart not to bet on Jack Conway in November."The Conway campaign has yet to respond to our request for comment.Overall, the P'Pool campaign has raised $466,467 compared to Conway's $166,353, but political observers note the attorney general is also running unopposed in the primary and is not actively campaigning. Also, it should be highlighted that over $250,000 of P'Pool's campaign fundraising total came from his own pocket.UPDATE:Responding to P'Pool's celebratory news release that bragged about tripling the attorney general in fundraising totals, the Conway campaign blasted the his general election opponent. From the Conway campaign:"While some people have been busy spinning and typing press releases, Jack Conway has been traveling across Kentucky educating students about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.  The 'numbers' recently reported are from a two-week fundraising snapshot before the Kentucky Derby.  Jack has a full schedule of fundraisers booked well into the summer.  In fact, he's expected to raise about $100,000 this week.  Raising money will not be a problem for Jack—let's remember, he raised $8 million in his race for U.S. Senate.

Kentucky families know Jack Conway and understand he cares about issues that are important to them - education, jobs, fighting drugs, taking on the special interests, removing 200,000 child porn images from the Internet, increasing Medicaid Fraud collections by 600 percent and standing up for consumers.

That's why he's 20 points ahead in the polls."
