Prince Charles Applauds Louisville's Sustainability Efforts During Trip

In a speech Friday in Louisville's Cathedral of the Assumption, Prince Charles applauded the city’s leaders for improving access to healthy local food and health care.

Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, visited Louisville on Friday on the last leg of their trip to the U.S. The Louisville visit also included a stop at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage in the Russell neighborhood.  Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were in Washington D.C. earlier this week.

The two visited Louisville in an effort to highlight some of the sustainability initiatives currently being implemented citywide.

“My warmest congratulations not only for what you have already achieved but also what you are striving for in the future: a model of truly integrated and holistic thinking on a city scale,” he said in his address.

Prince Charles also said cities need to get serious about addressing environmental issues. He warned a failure to address these issues could hurt generations to come.

“And I don’t know about all of you, but as a grandfather, I have no intention of failing mine or anyone else’s grandchildren,” the Prince of Wales told a large crowd gathered in the Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville.
