Program Helps WWII Vets See Memorial

On Wednesday morning 40 World War Two veterans from Kentucky will board a plane to Washington D.C. for their first visit to the World War Two Memorial. This is the first run of the Bluegrass division of the national Honor Flight program, which raises funds and organizes the trips for veterans who would otherwise never get to see the memorial.“Unfortunately the World War 2 veterans now are all in their mid 80s and statistics show that we’re losing them now at the rate of 1500 a day so this is certainly a mission and a program that time is of the essence," says UPS pilot Brian Duffy, who is helping arrange this week's trip. The flight will leave from Louisville Wednesday morning and return the same day.Duffy says there are several more trips planned for later this year.
